2023 King's Birthday Tournament
44 players (22 teams) contested our annual King's Birthday weekend mixed pairs tournament. Weather was "OK" with blasts of wet weather and cold temperatures on Sunday, but we managed to finish the tournament with all sections completed. The tournament is combined stableford, with 18 holes 4BBB on Saturday, 12 holes American foursomes and then 12 holes foursomes on Sunday, and 18 holes 4BBB on Monday. We run two divisions, Moutere for lowest handicaps and Tararua for higher handicaps. The field is split equally into the two divisions.
The 2023 winners were:
Moutere division: David and Lily Griffin (Waipawa, Manawatu, and Texas) - pictured left
Tararua divison: David Giddens and Bridget Cameron (Buckley) - pictured right

Incorporating feedback from both 2023 participants and club members, the 2024 event will make a few changes:
- 2024 will be an "any pairs" tournament, allowing men only and women only teams, organized into different divisions.
- Monday will be changed to a Canadian foursomes format.
We look forward to welcoming a large field in 2024.
2023 Horowhenua Open and Manawatu Wanganui Masters
We were blessed with warm weather and sunshine for the 2023 edition of the Horowhenua Open and Manawatu Wanganui Masters golf tournaments. Conducted by Golf New Zealand Manawatu Wanganui, the tournament is conducted over 36 holes, with 18 holes played on Saturday and 18 holes on Sunday. The Horowhenua Open is open to all players, while Masters eligibility is aged 40 and above.
Having been without a sponsor for a number of years, we were delighted to have Levin Kia come on board as major sponsor for the Open, as well as for Junior Golf, in 2023. Levin Kia provided a new EV6 (fully electric vehicle) to display at the clubhouse. A significant innovation was using the car to power the scoring computer and leaderboard outside the clubhouse. Iconic local brand Swazi also offered some prizes for the event.
Spectators were able to see some excellent golf played by some of the lower North Island's leading players.
Full tournament results are available at Tournament detail - Golf New Zealand. To avoid confusion, all participants were eligible for the Horowhenua Open, while participants over 40 years of age were also eligible for the Masters. The tournament system does not include the Masters participants in the Open results. Key division results were:
